I decided to nor order a cake for Megan's birthday this year. The first time that I made 'cake' for a birthday was when Gretchen turned 4, and we did cupcakes, and my mom iced them. I still wasn't sure that I'd be brave enough to bake a cake and that it would turn out decently, so I enlisted my mom to help again. She's decorated cupcakes for my niece's birthday the last two years, so I knew that she would do a great job, and I knew that I didn't want anything to difficult for Megan's cake... plus, I was trying to budget and save money!
I picked up two boxes of pink lemonade cake mix as well as pink lemonade icing. We baked the cake the Friday before the party. We left them in the pans overnight- anytime I bake a cake, I try to dump it out too soon, which results in most of the cake falling to pieces. Thankfully, the cakes dumped out perfectly!
Because my mom was decorating the cakes, she also spoiled her grand girls in the process!
G wanted to help, but I told her that she needed to watch instead! So, all the little girls got to eat bits of the cake as Gee was cutting them off to stack the layers.
I just had to share the pictures because they were too cute!
And, here's Gee decorating the cake.
The cake was exactly what I wanted. Pink and feminine with a vintage flair.
And, it was delicious!
