Valentine Box & Winners

Some of you may remember my rant on Friday about making Gretchen's valentine's day box for school….Well, we accomplished the task this weekend!

Let me clear up my ranting first….  I'm not ranting that we actually had to do the project. I'm just ranting that I didn't have the interest to make the box Pinterest worthy. I feel like I have zero ounce of creativity for a decorative Valentine box… give me some ribbon, an appliqué design, some tulle- absolutely- I can go all out, but decorating a box. It's just not my forte.

After surrendering to the fact that her box will likely not be the best in her class, I was more than happy to let her have full control.

For some reason, I refuse to throw away boxes. I have a stack of shipping boxes underneath my sewing table, and I let her choose one of the boxes to use for her project.

Then, I decided that we would wrap her box in purple wrapping paper, because I had it left over from her birthday party. DJ helped by cutting a heart shaped hole in the box, so her friends will be able to put  their cards (or goody-bags for those over-achievers) in. (And y'all, before I get hate mail about the over-achievers- i'm totally kidding! We just didn't have the energy to make fun treats this year. Last year, her friends got handmade bookmarks, this year, they're getting $1.00 store Valentines!)
Anyway, once the box was wrapped, Gretchen set to work glueing on doilies and adding stickers.
All of us working hard! Megan had to make a box too, so DJ wrapped her one and I cut out hearts out of glitter foam sheets.

Megan working away on her box. See how happy she is that she's doing it herself! Makes it totally worth it!

We added Gretchen's name with little glitter foam stickers that we found at the Dollar Tree.
I really do love how happy she was and how hard she worked on her box!

Megan didn't put her name on her box, she just put on her "A, B, D's"

So, yay, her box is complete! Actually two boxes are complete since Megan had to make one too! Gretchen is so excited to take hers to school today and I'm glad that the girls had fun making their boxes! I'm also glad that my type-A didn't take over to try to "fix" things that I thought were wrong or could have been better.

Sometimes God teaches us when we least expect it, and i'm thankful that in this little project, I learned to "let go".

And, before y'all go, I have THREE Winners to announce for the Beautiful AM Moisturizer giveaway!

Our Snowed in Weekend Wrap Up

As you know per yesterdays blog post we've been snowed in this weekend! The ice and snow started on Thursday evening and we decided to make homemade pizza followed by chocolate chip cookies!
I was so thankful that DJ was able to enjoy a full three days home with us. Friday we cleaned most of the day and then DJ took the girls outside to play.
I found Adalyn in her bed with her pajamas unbuttoned! She's found her feet and I guess on Friday, she pulled at them so much it unsnapped her pajamas. It looks like she only has 1/2 a leg here in this picture, but I assure you she has a full leg.

We had chili for dinner Friday night!

Saturday, my house looked like this. The girls decided to bring down all of the play food from upstairs and serve us a meal.
Meggie was tired after her nap on Saturday, and I thought maybe she'd go back to sleep, but she did not.
A little while later, she was acting like her silly goofball self again.
We found Adalyn asleep on her blanket (well, it's Gretchen's blanket) Saturday night.

On Sunday, we ventured out to church and then we went to Los Cabos for lunch. LC is usually so busy that you'll have at least an hours wait no matter what time you go, but we got right in!
Meggie did so good sitting in her high chair and eating chips!
I had to get a picture of Adalyn when we got home on Sunday afternoon, because she's wearing one of my dresses. I'm thankful that my mom saved a few pieces of my clothing, and each of the girls have been able to wear this dress.

I spent Sunday afternoon working on an appliqué shirt and then I read a little bit.
We gave the girls baths on Sunday night just in case we had school on Monday.

We did not.
After we put the girls to bed, DJ and I watched a movie and I worked on hair bows.

DJ went to work on Monday and I did more laundry and cleaned the house in preparation for going back to work Tuesday. I also made banana bread muffins!
During Megan's nap, I got to sit down and read some more! I've had this book since September and have not had the chance to read it at all! I've been thankful for this little time out in life so I can catch up on reading!

I also wanted to let you know that on Thursday, i'll be sharing a few Elf on the Shelf ideas, and you'll be able to link up on my Facebook page with your own pictures!

On Friday, i'll be linking up with Kelly's Korner and showing you a home tour of my Christmas decorations since I haven't shared those yet!

Snow Day!

Around noon last Thursday, Oklahoma began receiving the first of this year's ice/snow storm. Of course we had school on Thursday and all of the kids were so excited to see the ice falling from the sky. I on the other hand was not. Mostly because I wanted to be home and did not want to have to drive home on the icy roads.

I was able to leave work a little early because Megan and Addy's daycare closed at 4. It took me at least an hour to leave work, get both girls and get home. Typically I can make that in 50 minutes with me feeding Adalyn at daycare.

I was so glad to finally make it home and to learn that school was being closed for Friday!

I have needed another catch up day so bad! (I took Monday off so I could play catch up, but didn't get caught up with house stuff- only HPA stuff.)

DJ was home on Friday too!

We spent most of the day putting away laundry, washing more laundry, cleaning the bathroom, bedrooms, kitchen, vacuuming. And, even though I'm still not 100% done, my house looks better than it has in weeks!

After nap time DJ took the girls out to play in the snow.
Megan has proper snow play attire, because she has Gretchen's hand me down snow suit. (We had to be prepared when we lived in Indiana.) Poor Gretchen had to double up on socks, shirts, and pants. She keeps asking why she doesn't have a snow suit.
So glad that DJ was home to take them outside!

I think they were outside for maybe 10 minutes before the girls decided they were too cold. To be fair, their gloves are not proper snow gloves. And their hands were ice!

We convinced them to go outside one more time so I could get some pictures.
Megan was wearing a pair of my gloves since hers were covered in ice.
Gretchen decided to eat the snow.
Megan didn't really want to play much once we went back outside. She stayed on the sidewalk with me.
I wonder if we are the only people on our street with a fully clean side walk and drive way. The perks of having a snow shovel from when we lived in Indiana.
With my girls!
DJ and Gretchen.

DJ pulled the girls around on the sled and they had a snowball fight before we came inside. I didn't get pictures because I took video instead.
Gretchen's face says it all!

It was cold!
We came inside and Gretchen exclaimed that she was never, ever playing in the snow again!
Megan cried and cried because her hands were so cold!
She just wanted to cuddle up with daddy.
Gretchen got warm by the fire.
DJ and Gretchen also made his family's recipe of chex party mix yesterday.
We already ate one dish of it by Friday night!

He also made his dad's chili for dinner!

(I love having him home!)

After dinner, we decorated the Christmas tree (post coming soon) and the girls played a bit more before bed!
It was a pretty perfect snow day!

I'm going to be honest- praying that Monday is a snow day too!

Be Strong... and a few other things

Monday was not one of my worst days, but it definitely fell on the list of "I'm glad that's over!" I was so tired at work Monday afternoon, and yet I still had to get the girls picked up, feed them dinner, and get them to bed, and I also wanted to work on two applique orders as well.

It wasn't bath night, so I knew I had time to complete at least one of them while the girls were playing and watching t.v. and while Addy was sleeping. For the record, she only took TWO 30 minute naps at daycare all day long! She just does not sleep there! Anywho....

I went upstairs to start my applique projects for a customer that I was meeting on Tuesday morning. I made a trick or treat bag for her, and it did not turn out as I had imagined. I knew it was just okay, and in order to compensate, I was going to bring her a few hair bows. I started to work on her second shirt and it just failed. Flat out failed. Everything that could go wrong did. So, I scrapped that project, sent her an email that we couldn't meet Tuesday because I had to go purchase another shirt since I had messed up . Thankfully, she was so understanding!

Tuesday morning, I got up a little after 7. Thank you, DJ for letting me sleep in and not bugging me about when I was going to get up. I was so tired.

I got the girls dropped off, although we were almost late to school for Gretchen, but pulled in just at the nick of time! And after dropping off Meggie, Addy Pearl and I headed to my Tuesday morning Bible study.

We are studying Beth Moore's "Believing God" and let me tell y'all this one is good!
Three times on Tuesday, I heard the verse Joshua 1:9. I don't believe it was a coincidence. I am fully convicted that God is telling me to be strong and courageous right this very minute because He is here holding my hand and not letting me go. I'm not sure if He wants me to "go" somewhere or stay right where I am, but man God. I heard you loud and clear yesterday. I am clinging to this verse right now.
This is what I wore Tuesday morning to Bible Study. I found a cute look on Pinterest that I wanted to recreate, and then I remembered that Sheaffer totally thinks it's okay to pair black and brown together so I did.

After Bible study, Addy and I ran a few quick errands and then I came home to finish what I had started Monday night.
I'm so much happier with how this trick or treat bag turned out!
And I finished this snowman tie. I love him.

I also did another shirt and started on a few hair bows, but then it was time to make my rounds of picking the girls up from school.

Gretchen had book fair, so right after school, we went to the kindergarten night and she purchased three books.
She ended up getting a LaLaLoopsy book, a chapter book that I made her get (ha!), and a Sofia the First book. Because it had an amulet. That is the only reason she got that book y'all! She wanted Sofia's darn necklace and couldn't wait any longer.

She immediately came home, put it on, and started talking to our dog Bailey fully expecting Bailey to talk back to her in a human voice.

Anyway, we picked up Meggie afterwards, and then we went home so I could get Addy settled down and then I decided to make from scratch waffles. Remember y'all, I am NOT super mom.
While I was cooking dinner, Addy was fussing a bit, and I looked over to see that Meggie had pulled over her rocking chair, turned Addy's swing, and she was talking and playing with her.

 #meltmyheart

A few minutes later, Meggie decided that she should play soccer with Addy, and I'm 90% sure that soccer ball hit Addy smack dab in the head.
When I finally sat down at my desk Wednesday morning, I pulled up facebook on my phone. Because Lord knows you do not want to be caught on facebook at work! I immediately saw this picture of a cutie honey pie in her candy corn shirt I made and her October bow of the month club bow!

How precious!!!
