Our Favorite Books

I'm linking up at Kelly's Korner again for "Show Us Your Life". Today's theme is Favorite Kid Books.... we love books in this house, and I always make sure to give the girls a book on Christmas and Easter, and their birthdays. My mom is also good about buying them Halloween, Thanksgiving, or other holiday books! Needless to say, we have an overflowing bookshelf upstairs in the playroom, and both of the girls have books in their own bedroom.

We try to read to the girls every night before bed. DJ and I even read to Gretchen when I was pregnant with her! This is the very first book we bought when I found out I was pregnant with a girl and the book we would read to Gretchen.
I absolutely love this story, as it's all about two parent bears who wanted a baby, and how the baby grew inside, and then the baby came home. It's just such a sweet book.

Now that we are a little more busy with full time jobs, two kids, and our third on the way, reading is not something that happens every night, but it does happen most nights. I've started to get the girls on the couch before bedtime and the three of us read a book together, and then they go to their respective rooms, and we'll say prayers with each of them separately.

Here are a few of our favorite books:
Ladybug Girl is about a brave little girl who thinks finds heroic things to do while her parents are busy in the house and her big brother is playing with a friend. I recently bought "Ladybug Girl at the Beach" for G~ she received it in her Easter basket~ but we haven't had a chance to read it.
Fancy Nancy is another one of my favorites. I don't think Nancy could be any more fabulous! She loves to be fancy and explore and loves dogs. We have several Fancy Nancy books and G received another one for Easter!

I was first introduced to Fancy Nancy when I was pregnant with Gretchen. I received two of her books at a baby shower, and they were signed by the people who gave them to me. It was and still is one of my favorite baby shower gifts that we've received!

When I was pregnant with MC, I was given a Fancy Nancy baby shower because we were so in love with the books!

.........

The next two books are fun for all ages, and I really like to read them to my therapy kids and to my girls.

We have several of the "If You Give a ________ a _______" books. I think "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" is the original book, and it's fun to let kids draw what they think would happen if they gave a mouse a cookie, and then serve cookies and milk as a snack! It also teaches cause and effect.
And, I can rave and rave about several Dr. Seuss books, but this classic is my favorite! It's great to read to your baby because of the rhyming sing-song pattern in the words and teaches your baby intonation of our speech. It's also easy for kids to memorize to feel like they are reading themselves, and it has several sight words and it's easy to predict what words will come next due to the rhyming and patterns.

And, if you're looking to expand on this book, there are a gazillion pins out there for you!
I read this book every year to my speech kids as well, and plan an activity to go along with it. This year, I gave them a template of the Cat's hat, and we wrote vocabulary words on the lines and listened for the words in the book.

Thanks so much for stopping by my little nook!

I hope you've enjoyed a peek at some of our favorite books! Have you read any of these?

Bows, Bows, Bows

Sunday evening I spent a few hours sewing bows and on Monday, I had time to finish and put them together. I really enjoyed having Monday off and time to work on a few ready-to-ship bows.

All of these are available in my facebook store

This brassy flower on elastic will fit your newborn perfectly. It's perfect used as a newborn photo prop, or to accessorize a spring or summer dress. It's priced ready to go at $10.00.
My daughter loves LaLaLoopsy! It's always our "go-to" gift for birthday parties! I had this LaLaLoopys ribbon and these shabby flowers, and thought it would make a spunky piece of hair flair! $12.00
I know many little girls are in love with Olivia! This stacked Olivia bow is $10.00. I can totally see this worn with a polk-a-dot pillowcase dress or by a little girl having an Olivia themed birthday!
This Parisian Chique bow is $9.00. It's beautiful in pink and black and is a timeless accessory.
Dr. Seuss' birthday is March 2nd! I made this over the top Cat & the Hat bow, which would be perfect for next weeks' "Read Across America" event that will be happening in several schools across the country!  The bow has a red and white striped boutique bow on the bottom adorned with a yellow tiny bow on it's side. Turquoise marabou feathers represent Thing 1 and Thing 2's hair, and the turquoise boutique bow is set underneath a sparkling bottlecap featuring the Cat's Hat.
$14.00
Does your little one love to cheer? This basic white and black "go team/cheer" bow is only $8.00. The colors allow for flexibility for all teams & sports!
Check out all of these bows on my facebook page! If you order today (any of these bows) you'll receive FREE shipping!

Recent Custom Orders & a RTS {ready-to-ship}

Last week I put off all sewing until this weekend, which meant that Saturday night and Sunday were full of sewing and crafting!

I absolutely love how each of these orders turned out, and I feel more and more blessed every time I work on a custom creation for your child. I've found the passion again, that I seemed to misplace last year, and I'm just so thankful that January and February have been amazing months for my family and my business.

This first shirt is a custom order for a good friend of mine, whom I've never met- ha! She has two daughters and her oldest is right around G's age... She's one of my best customers and I love that customers become friends! She requested a shamrock shirt and matching pigtail hair bows for her daughters to wear at their St. Patrick's Day celebration at preschool.
These little Hello Kitty piggy sets are going to be so cute! I just love how they turned out.
This next piece, is a new line for me. I call it "Hair Flair". It's not really a bow, but it's a gorgeous hair piece that can be worn in portraits, or just to accessorize an outfit.

This one is made with a deep green nagorie feather, and features two lime chiffon flowers, and a handmade green and white chevron flower puff, as well as a chiffon rosette with a pearl in it's center. This flair is ready to ship, and is $15.00, but I seriously think you can wear it all year, and not just for St. Patrick's day! You'll just need to let me know if you want it on an elastic headband or on an alligator clip.
I also had another custom request for a Dr. Seuss shirt. Because my applique's are 100% hand made, I had to come up with something doable, but spectacular. How about Cat in the Hat's Hat?! I ordered this whimsical stripe fabric and paired it with a matching bow and bottlecap.
Here's a close up of the hair bow.
This chevron Minnie shirt is to die for! I sent it to my mom to monogram, and this is the picture she sent to me last night. I cannot wait to take my girls to Disney and deck them out in clothes like this!
As I was searching for supplies one afternoon, I came across these rosette bunnies. Um, can you say adorable?! I added eyes and a button nose, as well as a sequin hair bow and attached it to a white elastic headband. I cannot wait for my girls to wear these on Easter- unless of course, you snag them for yourself, because they're listed on my facebook page as ready-to-ship. In which case, i'll just have to order more for my girls!
Hair Flair pieces have been so inspiring to me lately. I don't know if it's because my love for photography is growing, and I can totally see these as newborn photo props or if it's because of the bambino in the oven right now. (Not a literal oven.) I am swooning over this newborn headband in pink and grey satin with tiny sequins and an adorable broach. This is aslo ready-to-ship on my page.
Are you totally in love with these like I am? And, what do you think of the new line of "hair flair?"
