Thursday Shenanigans

Last Thursday I was scheduled to have my 35 week doctor appointment. I made sure to get up early so I could shower and get some laundry started before we had to leave for my appointment at 10. Around 9:00 I got a phone call canceling my appointment, and was kind of at a loss at what to do.

We had planned to go to football to play in the water fountains after my appointment, but it was a bit cooler than I expected and I had to really think about if I wanted to get out of the house. 

For the next little while I just let the girls watch t.v. while I did some blog reading and responded to emails. 

I finally decided that we'd go ahead and go to the football offices to see DJ. The girls have barely seen him all week thanks to high school camps.

We picked him up and went to Sonic- G's choice- for lunch.

We ended up bringing Sonic back to campus and had a picnic beside the fountains.

G really wanted a milkshake, but I told her she could have a slush instead. She was fine with that as long as there was a real cherry inside!

The girls were really excited to see their daddy!

They ended up fighting over the last bit of slushy, so DJ gave them each a straw and they were happy.

We finally headed home around 1:30 and got stuck in traffic, so MC fell asleep in the car.

I some how managed to get G to fall asleep and take a nap, which hasn't happened all week. I rarely try anymore, because then she'll be up late at night, but I wanted her to rest before soccer practice.

And, out of boredom, and the sheer fact that i've barely documented the last few weeks of my pregnancy, I snapped a photo of my 35 week belly. 

Four more weeks to go and I could not be more ready!

When the girls woke up, we got ready for soccer practice. I gave them a snack and we were out the door and on time!

G did really well at soccer, and next week will be her last class... but she ended up getting hurt at the end, and she was crying. I really didn't feel like coming home and messing with dinner, so I took the girls for pizza in order to cheer G up.

MC was mid-eating, but she was so mesmerized with a baby across from us.... she just kept staring blankly at this baby.... I know she loves babies, but she has no idea how her life is about to change!

G loves going to Hideaway Pizza because she gets to color and hang her picture up outside of the bathrooms on their little art wall. She's doing a much better job at staying in the lines!

After pizza we came home and I put MC straight to bed, and let G stay up for another hour watching Team Umizoomi.

It ended up being a good Thursday, a busy one, and I've decided i'm ready again for a few low key days at home! We're having a garage sale Friday & Saturday morning and friends over Saturday afternoon for a cookout, but I see a nap in my future at least one of those afternoons!

Summer Days

The girls and I have been home all week, and I had big plans that we would have productive days and that i'd be motivated to wake up early and shower and get them out of the house for some activities..... that hasn't happened. Not even close. 

Sunday afternoon I came up with a list of things for us to accomplish every day and how we'd have fun. I've crossed off most of the items off my list, but probably not in the ideal way I expected. 

Monday was reserved for house cleaning after all of the weekend fun we had. 

I managed to get MC dressed, but that was about it! 

The girls helped to clean the house, and I've started bribing, giving G an allowance for helping and we had leftovers for lunch.

Megan went down for a nap, and she slept for 3 1/2 hours, so I went upstairs to sew. G wanted to play "kindergarten" but when she realized her neighbor friends were outside, she decided it would be more fun to play with them in their little pools. So, she put on her bathing suit and went outside to join in on the fun. 

I managed to get about 8 bibs made for a photographer in Central, Arkansas. And G ended up with a little too much sun.

For dinner, we had pepperoni grilled cheese sandwiches with fruit and peas. 

I planned to get up Tuesday morning and take the girls to the aquarium, but I managed to sleep until 8:30, and knew that by the time we got up and dressed and got there, that it would be late in the morning, and it was raining, so we just decided to have a lazy morning.

Thankfully, Tinkerbell was on the Disney channel and the girls and I layed around and watched t.v. 

I made the girls peanut butter roll ups for lunch with chips and fruit and then put MC down for her nap.

G and I went outside to wash off our picnic table and the wagon. I'm planning on bringing the picnic table inside so the girls can eat lunch in the living room or can color rather than them climbing on the barstools. 

After we washed the toys, G played with sidewalk chalk and we practiced her letter sounds, lower case letters, had "science" class and ate popsicles. 

We went back inside to rest until DJ came home, and then I took G to a splash pad while DJ hung out with Megan.

When Gretchen and I came home we made lasagna roll ups for dinner, with green beans and garlic bread. 

Wednesday morning was rainy again, so I made the beds, cleaned the kitchen and worked on some laundry. Then, I took the girls upstairs to play so I could finish 10 bibs (I still have to add the velcro.) And, I started on a Sofia dress for Gretchen. 

For lunch, the girls had chicken nuggets, peas, and cheese sticks. 

I needed to fill some time after lunch before naps, so the girls and I made colored ice cubes.

I just put down some newspaper, and filled the ice trays with water and let the girls drop food coloring in the water.  We're going to use these later for outdoor ice painting. I honestly don't know what it will look like on paper, but even if it's hot and it doesn't work out, the girls will have fun playing with the ice cubes.

I spent most of Wednesday sewing, and completed this dress for Gretchen.... well, it's almost complete. We've decided to add a flower applique to the top of the dress, so I still need to do that.

MC didn't take a long nap (about an hour and a half) and she woke up poopy and by this time both girls were wearing on my nerves. What, your kids don't get on your nerves? Yeah, mine either. So, I decided to throw on some real clothes and a little bit of makeup... which, you'd think would be an easy task, but being 8 months pregnant and getting dressed to wear you feel you look half way decent, is not an easy task. 

I put some clothes on the girls and we headed out the door with no plan. Other than to return a movie and pick up eggs at Target. I didn't want to go to the park, but we just had to get out of the house. If we went to the park, I would've had to play with the girls, and the sole purpose of this outing was to give me a break! So, we went to Chick Fil A, and I bought us milkshakes and let the girls play for about an hour until I felt like myself again.

Afterwards, we headed to Target and then home for dinner- both girls were about to fall asleep in the car, so I knew we'd have an early bedtime. I skipped dinner and folded clothes instead, then gave MC a bath, and put both of them to bed by 7:15.

Then, I enjoyed several hours of quiet time until DJ came home.

Phone Pics!

Today's post is full of random iphone pictures and random stories- enjoy!

May 26th.... we enjoyed the sunshine on Memorial day weekend. DJ's mom was in town, and that afternoon MC took a nap. DJ decided to smoke ribs while I enjoyed some sunshine and G enjoyed playing. G decided that she would make us have a tea party and she set everything up. She pulled her picnic table over to Meggie's new princess patio set, and brought her two tea sets out. She also used DJ's bungee cords to join the chairs together (I'm not sure why she had this idea) and she brought out flowers left over from Megan's party. Then, she brought everyone a piece of candy to enjoy with their tea! It was just too sweet.

This may have been Monday, Memorial day.... we really party hard for Memorial day- ha! We stayed in pj's pretty much all day! I did some sewing and picked up the house a bit, but we had a really lazy day.

On Wednesday, I got my hair cut. I so desperately needed one and hadn't cut my hair since November! Seriously, y'all. Pathetic. I have decided that I really want to color my hair since it's so dark, and i'd love more of a honey, caramel color, but i'm also waiting until I find my first gray hair, which i'm convinced won't be too much longer since i'm about to have three daughters!

Megan's teacher loves to fix her hair. It's so funny when I pick her up some days and her hair is in a bun or braided pigtails. Last week, her teacher decided to french braid her hair. I have no idea how she gets Megan to let her fix her hair. Anytime I take a brush to her hair, Meggie immediately exclaims, 'ow!' So, I rarely try to fix her hair. I also have no idea how to french braid, and had no idea Meggie's hair was even long enough.... but isn't it cute!

I picked the girls up Thursday from school, and found that both of them had had accidents! Meggie's cloth diaper leaked at nap time since she slept so long, so she had to change her pants. One day, i'll learn my lesson and take extra clothes- these were pretty dirty on the knee. 

And Megan had to wear her 'kitty' shoes. I bought the girls flip flops from Target just so they'd have some to wear to the pool, but both girls are loving their new shoes right now.

Poor Gretchen decided to not tell her teacher that she had to potty while they were outside playing and just decided to pee on the playground. She had to put on these ratty little boy pants, and this orange t-shirt, which she put on backwards! I just have to laugh thinking about how she pottied on the playground, and how much she hates to look like a boy, and this is what she had to put on!

I took the girls to Wal-Mart afterwards to pick up plants for their teachers and to get garage sale signs, and two people commented to me about how cute my girls were. One man even stopped his car and told me how cute they were and how blessed my husband and I were. I just found it ironic that two people thought how adorable they were when they looked like little raggamuffins to me!

How Do I? Make Time for Family

Today I want to talk about family, and how I make time for my family. It's so difficult for a working mom to balance time with her kids, husband, and extended family! I think it's a battle that all working moms have within themselves and struggle with.

I'm so blessed that for 5 years i've worked in the public school setting. As hard as it can be, i'm so thankful for the hours of my job. My kids are not the first to arrive at their daycare and they are not the last to leave. That is so important to me! I drop the girls off around 7:45, and by 4:00 (or earlier) I've picked the girls up from school.

I also have a teacher's schedule so I'm blessed to have fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and summers off! I don't have to take off work just to be home when the kids are out of school.

I'm currently struggling with where I'm going to work after Adalyn arrives. Part of me would love to go part time (3-4 days a week) and the other part tells me to stay in the schools so I can have these holidays off. To be honest, I am not 100% sure where i'll be working in September, but the fact that I currently have holidays and summers off is a huge contributing factor to my decision.

I know that not all of us go into professions that belong in the public school setting, and believe me, I don't work in the schools for the money. I could make 15-20,000 more a year if I worked in a different setting. So, if you're not blessed enough to work in the schools how do you make time to spend with your kids and still juggle all of the responsibilities as a mom? Hopefully, you'll get some good tips here.

As I mentioned before, I can have my kids picked up no later than 4:00, and we are home within 15 minutes. There are many, many days where we are walking in the door at 4:00. That gives us an entire hour to spend together before I have to cook dinner.

In that hour, we usually play together in the playroom or downstairs. We might catch up on Princess Sofia episodes, or we may go for ice cream. There are times where I let the girls play together in the playroom where I work on sewing projects. The point is- we are together.

When it's time to cook dinner, MC is always hanging out in the kitchen with me. She loves to be in the kitchen! I'll also encourage G to help where she is able, or I'll have them sitting at the bar coloring. Our kitchen and living room connect, so if they're in the living room, I feel like i'm with them when i'm in the kitchen.

After dinner comes baths. DJ or I give them a bath and we'll hang out in the bathroom while the girls are in the tub. We try to make bath time fun by letting the girls play with tub crayons or having bubbles or just splashing around with them. DJ is so good about this- he gets a little crab wash cloth and pretends its a puppet. The girls get a kick out of it!

After bath is bedtime. I try to read to the girls every single night. Currently, G and I are reading Stuart Little, our first chapter book, and we read one chapter each night. We also say prayers every night.

While we are in the car, I try to keep the radio off. I talk to the girls about their day, or ask them questions about their friends, and their own thoughts and feelings. I also try to stay off the phone, unless I haven't talked to my own mom that day. Then, i'll call her on our way home from school.

Taking G to gymnastics once a week, gives me an hour of time with Meggie, as does G's soccer. DJ usually takes her and then Megan and I can stay home together.

Once a month, I try to take Gretchen on a "date". In April, we went to see Angelina Ballerina, in May, we went to the bookstore to visit the illustrator of Fancy Nancy and i've taken her out for ice cream. This gives us bonding time without having another child present. I want to continue our "date nights" once Adalyn arrives and school starts again. She's at such an impresionable age, that I feel these are so important to us!

On the weekends, I typically spend the mornings cleaning the house, but Saturday afternoons are reserved for family time. Sundays are pretty much the same way. We go to church in the morning, then when we get home MC naps, and we are home.

I'm not always playing with my girls, but I am with my girls. I've always heard that quality not quantity is important, so we do try to have those special quality moments together. I also want to make memories with my girls, so getting out of the house to go to the zoo, park, or aquarium are special moments for us!

I think most importantly as mom's, we need to accept what we can't change, and just live in the moments that are there. Appreciate the time that you're with your kids and make memories with them.
