Meeting an Illustrator

05.00

I'm fairly certain i've mentioned before our love for Fancy Nancy books. Gretchen received her first two Fancy Nancy books before she was even born, and we've been collecting them ever since.

Robin Preiss Glasser, the illustrator for Fancy Nancy came to Tulsa last Tuesday night, and I knew that I wanted to take Gretchen.
Gretchen got all dressed up for the occasion. Complete with her Fancy Nancy butterfly dress, high heel shoes, wings, chunky necklace, and hair feathers.

We arrived 10 minutes before start time, and I was shocked at how many people were there! G managed to work her way up and get a fairly decent seat on the side, but there was no way I could squeeze my bulging belly in between all those people, so I just stood back so G could see and I could keep an eye on G.

Robin Glasser arrived and shared with us some of her inspiration behind the characters in Fancy Nancy.
Nancy was actually drawn using a troll doll as inspiration.

Here's Robin Glasser holding up the troll doll for the girls to see.
Nancy's dad is drawn from Robin Glasser's husband, and Frenchy, her dog, is drawn from Robin's own dog.

We purchased the newest Fancy Nancy book.
And waited in line for at least an hour, if not longer to have Robin Glasser sign G's book.

Thankfully, the lady in front of us was so sweet and nice, and her 8 year old daughter played a bit with Gretchen.

The girls also passed time by playing Ring-Around-the-Rosie, and later another mother sat down with the girls and started reading books to them!
It was finally our turned and G was so excited to meet Mrs. Glasser.

Isn't she fancy?!
Afterwards, we were able to tour the bus, that Mrs. Glasser travels in. She said that she sleeps in the bus  or relaxes there between scheduled visits, but sleeps in a hotel at night..... can't say that I blame her!

She actually had three presentations the day she was in Tulsa, followed by another one the next day, and then she was on to Little Rock and Oxford, MS.

And the fancy couch.
And at the dining table.

Fancy Nancy also has a musical, and if that ever comes to Tulsa, we'll be the first in line to buy tickets!
After the bus tour, G wanted one more picture.

By this time, she wanted her wings off and told me that her feet were killing her!

I took her for a milkshake afterwards and we headed straight home for bed.

I loved taking G and having a girls night out with her! She and I decided we needed one every month, and compromised that when Addalyn arrives, that we'll have to have girls night out at home!
