What a Week!

Last week was full of happy chaotic madness. What wonderful memories were made, but boy was I exhausted. Every single day.

Tuesday Gretchen had kindergarten assessments, so I woke up early to get dressed, and to make sure we were all ready and on time.

We walked in the door right on time at 10:40.

Afterwards, we had to run to Target to get milk and pick up a few birthday presents. Poor Addy hates her carseat, especially if the car is not moving, but I thought our trip in wouldn't take too long, so I left her in the carseat and put it in the buggy.

I was wrong. She cried the entire time. I looked up, and Meggie had turned around in her buckle, put the paci back in Addy's mouth, and was rocking her carseat back and forth. She's such a good little helper. 

Too bad it didn't work. 

Tuesday afternoon Gretchen and I spent nap time curled up on the couch watching a movie. 

I was watching a recorded "Cool Pools" on HGTV and Gretchen decided to make her own pool out of crayons.

This is what my living room floor looked like:

Megan and I ended up cleaning up the crayon mess because Gretchen through a fit, therefore she lost all coloring privilege for the next two weeks at home.

I put Addy in the bouncy seat and she was actually happy for more than 5 minutes! I had to take a picture to record this first. However, she began fussing right after the picture was taken and posted to Instagram. Thanks for making me a liar Adalyn.

Addy is beginning to have her first smiles! She smiled around 6 weeks, and I wasn't sure if it was a real smile or a gas smile, but these are real people!

She has a tiny crooked little smile where the right side of her mouth curls up, but the left side stays straight. 

My mom and grandma showed up Wednesday afternoon. After Megan's nap time, we went for ice cream, came home to play outside, ate dinner, bathed the girls, and I fixed Gretchen's lunch for the very first time:

Thursday morning was Gretchen's first day of school!

On Friday, DJ was able to take Gretchen to school. I was thankful that I didn't have to get up and get dressed right away, and could sleep in a little bit, but I decided that being home with two girls is much busier and crazier than being home with all three girls!

I had Megan dressed, but I swear she took her clothes off at least 5 times. I think her daycare is going to hate me in a few weeks. I can just see Megan taking her clothes off in front of her entire class, or on the playground, or in the hallway. That's what happens when we're home all summer. Sorry!

She enjoys bouncing in Addy's seat.... at least someone does.

Addy had spent the first part of the week sleeping happily in her swing, but she was not having it Friday. I think her Gee and great-grandma spoiled her Wednesday and Thursday! 

I showered through her screaming, and was finally able to finish getting dressed after Megan went down for her nap.

I had about an hour and I worked on a few hair pieces, that i'll share with you later this week! 

Then, I had to wake up this sleeping baby to change her and feed her, so we could pick Gretchen up from her 2nd day of kindergarten.

While we were in the carpool lane, I turned on a Veggie Tale DVD and gave Meggie a box of raisins and fruit snacks to attempt to occupy her. She brought Doc and her blankie along with her.

When we came home, I cuddled with Addy to get her to sleep. I think she was tired because she cried the entire time we were in the car.

Gretchen said she had another great day, and she said she even had homework. She finished tracing her alphabet, and then went upstairs to her room to play.

I set nothing out for dinner, and since DJ's not home to eat with us right now, the girls and I decided that pancakes sounded delicious!

After dinner we settled in to watch "Up" and then I tucked the girls into bed and worked on solid color boutique bows. 

What a perfect way to end the week.

Pumpkin Headbands

When I first layed eyes on these chiffon pumpkin headbands, I knew that I had to get my hands on them. The day that I got them in the mail, I set to work and completed five headbands, which is no small feat with a 6 week old baby!

I decided to make headbands with the pumpkins. I love me some good hair flair, and all of my girls can wear these with no problems.

These are all ready to ship in my facebook shop and are all priced under $10.00, which is a STEAL!

This Little Pumpkin is $9.00 and is placed on white elastic. The fabric has zig zag edges, which will fray with some wearing, and is ruffled. The pumpkin is adorned with a tiny green bow.

I know many of my fans are not a fan of the over the top look, so I also made one simple headband as well.

Frankenstein Glam (below) isn't a pumpkin, but I just adore the halloween colors.

Mr. Jack (below) is $8.50 and is placed a skinny black headband. He's adorned with black ric rac and a dotted mini bow.

I love the mix in this chevron zebra pumpkin headband. The ruffled fabric features orange and white chevron, and the zebra bow is adorned with a purple sparkle center.

For the bigger girls, I placed this chiffon pumpkin on a lime green headband. It has a simple and timeless look, perfect for a trip to the pumpkin patch.

After I made these, I had an idea to use them on a onesie for Adalyn, and I have five more heading my way! I'll be using three of them, but i'll have two available for custom order, so please send me a message if you would like a headband, but not a fan of one of these that are ready to ship. I'd love to work out a custom order for you!

Jumbo Flowers

I love flowers, and even though they remind most of us spring, they're a perfect hair accessory for fall. 

Here a few new ones in my shop.

I love, love, love this red flower. It's such a pretty accessory that can be worn year round and can also serve as a gorgeous headpiece in a photography portrait session.

Brown is a gorgeous fall color, and I paired this flower on an ivory crochet headband. 

I absolutely love when these headbands are worn more as a crown and lay on top of the hair. It's such a sophisticated look for little girls. 

And I could not resist this ultra large fuschia bloom. 

Just gorgeous.

Manic Monday

I don't know what happened to the girls on Monday, but I must say that it was the best day we've had since Adalyn joined our family! Gretchen watched t.v. and played with boxes and crayons in the living room, Addy slept in the swing all morning (which never happens), I was able to get a few things cleaned, and then Megan joined me upstairs while I sewed and completed projects. Dare I say we're getting the hang of things? 

Better not, I'll jinx us.

Because the girls were so cooperative, I got a lot of my sewing to-do list finished.

I'm really hoping to add more twirl skirts to my inventory, and maybe it's because i'm in love with the fabric collection at Hobby Lobby, but it's also because the skirts are so cute and easy to slip on, and Gretchen loves them.

They're twirl approved.

I'm also adding this one shoulder ruffled shirt. The best part is the price- it's only $15.00, and they're so stylish!

My mom and I made this acorn applique shirt, and I was so excited to finally finish the matching skirt for Meggie. It's so cute for fall!

Gretchen Does Kindergarten

Today is Gretchen's first day of kindergarten. I wanted to write a fresh blog post and not have anything scheduled, because I wanted to have today's post fresh in my head. So, I could accurately relay my thoughts and feelings.

Tuesday, we went to Gretchen's school for her kindergarten assessment. The teacher asked her her letters, sounds, syllables, and rhyming. Gretchen said she did great and only missed two questions.

Yesterday, my mom and grandma came to Tulsa and spent the afternoon and night. When they arrived, we went out for ice cream, came home, and let the girls play for a while. After dinner, they helped give the girls a bath, clean the kitchen, and Gretchen and I fixed her lunch. 

We used a container from Pottery Barn that I purchased from their outlet store in Memphis. I love all of it's little compartments! Gretchen wanted tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, and I made her little turkey and cheese roll ups, and fixed her a salad of spinach and cheese, and told her she could add her veggies too.  (And as I'm writing this, I totally forgot to give her a little fork to eat her salad with!) Anyway, I know she'll survive, but yes, I feel like the worst mother ever- ha! She also had a container of ranch and asked to take yogurt as well. I'm 99.9% sure that she had too much food. 

After her bath, we painted her toe nails and finger nails. She likes painting them in a pattern, so they were yellow with sparkle, then pink sparkle. Her fingernails were all yellow w/ sparkle. We also curled her hair with the pink foam rollers. I wanted to blow dry her hair straight, but she insisted on the rollers. Probably because she hates having her hair blow dried.

Afterwards, I took her to her room and read her a book I had purchased called, "The Night Before Kindergarten", and I gave her a school bus chunky necklace that I had purchased here, for her to wear on her first day.

I'll admit, my eyes swelled up with tears, and I had to choke back on a few tears while reading to her. 

This morning I woke up a little after 6 and started getting dressed. I also read this blog post and once again tears welled up in my eyes. It is my prayer that Gretchen (and all of the girls) know that I will be there for them always. No matter where we are, no matter where she is, I will be there. My mom (and grandma) have always been there for me.... throughout the tears of not being dance team captain my senior year, to break ups, to an engagement, a wedding, and moving to three states, and seven houses, and the birth of my three children, they've always been there. I pray that Gretchen will know that we will be there for her too.

 I made her blueberry muffins, greek yogurt, and gave her a few Lucky Charms, because she thinks those will make her have a lucky day.

After she ate, we took the curlers out of her hair, and got her dressed. DJ made it back home at 8 and we had plenty of time to get lots and lots of pictures!

Turning out of our neighborhood was a mess, so we cut through another neighborhood and made it to the school within 10 minutes. We parked by the middle school, because the parking lot for the elementary was crazy, and we walked over. As we were walking, we ran into her friend from preschool, and stopped for a photo op.

We arrived before the bell rang, and we stood in line with the other anxious children and parents. Gretchen played in the grass, looked for four-leaf clovers, and picked a weed bouquet for her teacher.

Thankfully, daddy told her she couldn't take it into school and she gave it to him instead.

Once the bell rang, we again took her picture outside of the school (with the school name, but i'm not sharing it here due to privacy reasons) and we walked her down the hallway to the gym. 

Once we walked in the door, she immediately said that she wanted to go by herself and that she did not want us to go with her. I explained I had to go because I was carrying her backpack, and she took it from me to carry herself.

I told her we were still going with her!

We made it to the gym, and she sat in the kindergarten line and waited to be dismissed to her class. This is when I teared up. Watching her sit amongst these little kindergarten strangers, who might one day become her friends. She looked a little scared and a little lonely, and I just wanted to go sit beside her and hold her hand.

I turned to look at DJ and then tried to not let myself cry any more. I didn't want her to see my cry, and to be honest, I didn't see many other parents crying.

Once she was dismissed, we walked her to her classroom, and she yet again told us she wanted to go by herself.

We hung back just a tiny bit and let her go in by herself. She instantly went over to her "locker" and a friend from dance class two years ago, was sitting at the table. We knew Gretchen and E were going to be in the same class room from meet the teacher night, and I'm glad that E was already there coloring. She jumped up when she saw Gretchen and helped Gretchen get her heavy backpack in her locker, and then told Gretchen she could sit beside her.

It melted my heart knowing that she already has a little friend in her class and seeing how sweet E was being to her. The girls sat down beside each other, at a table full of other little girls, and began to color the picture the teacher had placed on their table.

I knew she'd be okay.

I told DJ that we hadn't even hugged or kissed her yet, so we walked over and told her that we were leaving, and I asked her to give me a kiss. I honestly figured she'd tell me no, because she didn't want to be embarrassed in front of her little friends. But, she kissed me anyway, and I was so glad that she's still too little to think that its silly to give your mommy a kiss.

DJ walked over and gave her a kiss too, and we walked out of the classroom and out of the school leaving our little girl behind.

Once we got home, I was greeted by Megan and my mom who had stayed home with the little girls. We decided to go to Hobby Lobby for some shopping, and i'm so glad because it took my mind off Gretchen being away.

We ate at Panera for lunch, just my mom, grandma, myself, Meggie, and Addy, and I was again thankful for being busy.

It's nap time now, and I finally have Addy to sleep and Meggie is sleeping too. But, we'll be on our way to pick up Gretchen in just a bit, and I'm so excited to hear how her day went!

My baby is in kindergarten and we made it through the morning; we made it through the summer and the changes, and the day i've been anxiously and nervously thinking about since the day she was born. I just pray she knows i'll always be there. I'll always walk her into school as long as she'll let me, and she'll always be my little girl.
