Donation Days for Emmett!

I'm looking for several boutiques that would be interested in a "donation" day. Some of you know, that in the beginning of August, I did a fundraiser for Emmett's Search Dog. We have one year left to raise money, and i'd like to try to put together several more events. The donation days would run September 20-22nd. I would post your profile pic or another picture, along with your website on my page, and I would post your pages and feature your business in several blog posts. I'm just asking that in return, you would donate 10% of your sales on those dates to Emmett's Search Dog. If you are interested, please email me (esearchdog@yahoo.com). If you'll include a photo for me to use, and your URL, and i'll do all of the advertising! On the 23rd, or once outstanding invoices are paid, then you'll just donate the 10% to the paypal account- which uses the same email address as above. It will totally be an honor system, because there's no way I can know what your total sales are during that time. Thanks for being such a supportive and helpful group!!!

Mommy Style~ Hair

A few weeks ago, I had someone asked me how I had time to straighten my hair every day. I told her that I didn't have a choice- ha! But, that it only takes about 5 or so minutes.

I try to have a fairly easy hair style, because I need something fast, but I also love having my hair straight and poofed. If you don't know what a poof is, you're not southern!

I don't even blow dry my hair with a big round brush, unless I'm wanting to dress up a bit. I just blow dry it and use no product before.
^ This is my hair right after I blow dry it. See, why I need to straighten it? Because of the layers it's poofy on the sides about half way up!
This is right after I straighten my hair. It's just really flat, so I need to poof.

Here's how to poof: grab a section of hair at the crown of your head and spray the under side with hairspray. Brush your hair starting at the base, and brush downward. Drop a bit that has poofed, and repeat with the top section of that hair.
Next, I poof the sides just a little bit. I grab a section on the side, spray, and brush downward.
All done!

Gymnastics

G decided that she wanted to gymnastics this year rather than dance. Her little neighbor friend has been taking gymnastics, so G wanted to take with her. The girls are having so much fun together as long as their teacher separates them during rotation!
I love that G is finally getting more practice with her gross motor skills.
She's in the very back, top left of the picture below- doing her backbend.
Sorry for the poor pictures, I only had my phone :)

Saturday Family Night

DJ got home early on Saturday afternoon, and the girls and I were thrilled that we would get one last weekend to spend some time with him before the hectic football games began!

He found out about a steak cook off going on in downtown, and the football team and staff had received vouchers to get in free.

So, we loaded up the girls, and made a stop by football (because we can never really get away from it) and let the girls run around on the field.

(My mom made their matching outfits)

The cook off was fun and their were tents upon tents of men cooking steak. I'm not sure about you, but to me, a steak is a steak. There have only been a small handful of times in my life where i've said, "this is the most amazing steak ever." And, it wasn't last night. But, we had our steak, salad, roll, and baked potato (which did nothing for my low-carb diet). After eating, we took a little stroll and enjoyed some music.
We had several people ask us if we were Cowboy fans, and for the record, we are not (obviously). But, because our stroller is orange and black it was asked, several times. At one point, I told DJ we were going to put it up for sale. So, if you want it, make me an offer- but you have to come and get it! (Ha!)

I only bought this one, because it was the stiller I wanted, plus it was a great deal. Sadly, it was the only color that was in stock.

We watched G dance for a while.
I really think she loves to be the center of attention, and she grabbed these little girls, and started making them spin in circles!

After the cook off, we ended our night with slushies & ice cream from Sonic!

MC is 15 months!

MC turned 15 months yesterday! This week was her first week at ILCAP (daycare) and a week of getting use to a new schedule as well. She whined or cried every morning when I dropped her off, although she had been going every so often in August, but finally, yesterday, she didn't whine or cry! I carried her into the room, and put her down to play, and she stood there, and I slowly crept away, waiting for her tears, and they never came! Success!!!

She finally weighs about 19 lbs. and I'm not sure how long she is. I'll be scheduling a doctor appointment for her soon, just for a well child check up.
She still loves to eat, although I feel she is starting to grow a tiny bit pickier, and she loves to feed the dog! She throws anything she doesn't want on the floor so Bailey can have it!

She says, "Momma, Dadda, Thank you, Dog, Gotcha, Bye-bye" and tries to imitate "Gretchen". Her teacher also reported that she tries to imitate "please" and other words. MC loves to babble, and she "lectures" us quite often.

She's a climber. She climbs the stairs in our house if the baby gate is even cracked. She climbs on top of G's stool, and climbs into her bumbo chair. She also climbs onto the kid-size rocking chair in our living room, and then stands up. She climbs on top of the dishwasher when it's open, and this week, she climbed onto DJ's chair when the leg prop was out, and when I was lying on the floor, she climbed on top of me and on to the ottoman, and again stood up.
She's starting to play with her books more, especially after bath time, and we are finally trying to establish more of a bedtime routine with her, although we are still able to put her down in the crib and she falls asleep.

She sleeps 12 hours a night, and when she's at home, she takes 2 naps a day. (They are around 2 hours). At daycare, she can only take 1 nap a day, and it averages 2 1/2 hours.

She still uses her paci, and I've reminded myself that it was around this age, where we stopped allowing G hers, but i'm not ready for MC to give it up yet. We've had a lot of changes this month, and i'm just not in a rush.

She can drink out of a straw cup and a sippy cup, although she likes to take a drink and spit it back out. We have not given her eating utensils yet.

She has four top teeth, two bottom teeth, and 1 top molar that is breaking through (which explains why she has been a drool monster lately!)
She is so happy, and just loves to talk, smile, and laugh. I still think that she will be timid and shy, but also mischievous. It's so much fun watching her personality emerge more and more!

Another day, another dollar

The girls must be getting used to waking up earlier, because they were both awake by 6:30 this morning! It kind of through my schedule off, but we were still out the door on time, and I was even on time to work for the 2nd day in a row! (My old principal would be proud of me.)

I was able to go through files and gather my IEPs today, hopefully by Friday I will have a loose schedule in place so I can start seeing kids next week.

After school, I went to see my Sooner Start (early intervention) kid. This family is just amazing, and the little boy is making so much progress! I love when I see kids imitate and say the simplest of words that we've been working weeks for! It's like hearing your child say their very first word, except I get to experience every time I see these kids! Today, the little one said "orange" and we have been working on this color word for months!

I picked up the girls after school and we ran to the bank and came home for dinner. The girls had hot dogs, pasta, and mandarin oranges, and G was begging for a slushy from Sonic, so we made our own at home. I used frozen strawberries, an orange, and apple juice for G. Then, I added a few more strawberries, juice, and two scoops of protein powder for my own dinner.

Here's what I ate today:
Breakfast: Protein drink
Snack: Chobani pineapple yogurt
Lunch: 1 hard boiled egg, 2 slices of turkey, 1 slice of cheese
Dinner: Smoothie (above)

I'm hoping to get by the grocery store in the next few days, and a ton of fruit and veggies are going to be on my list!

I'm glad that this day is "over".... the girls are in bed, and DJs at a dinner tonight. Time to veg out and watch Dance Moms!

What a day...

Today was my second day back to school and my first day at my (hopefully) permanent building. From what I can tell, i'm going to enjoy it! I share a room with two other teachers, and I'm glad. I'm a talkative person, so i'm glad that i'll be with other teachers!

I was able to get my "stuff" organized, but I know there's still so much to do- get my computer set up, print my IEP's, make my files, come up with my schedule. It's exhausting just thinking about it.

I left a bit early because the girls had their "model" shoot today. Their outfits were adorable, but it was hot and the sun was in G's eyes, and MC just wanted to walk and explore. I'm not sure they had even 1 decent photo of the girls.

Afterwards, I brought the girls home to play with G's neighbor friend, and her grandmother stayed with all three girls while I went to see a Sooner Start (Oklahoma's 0-3 program) speech kid. I was going to keep three of these kids, but I've decided to only keep two. It will make me work late two days a week, but I've grown to love these families. And, I would hate for them to get new therapists.

I heated up a frozen dinner I had made a few weeks ago, and MC through half of hers on the floor tonight. It's a good thing that when she gets down, she goes back to the kitchen and eats off the floor, or else i'd have had to vacuum.

I decided to take some pictures of MC tonight while she was playing with her books. We are awful about reading to her, but i'm trying to read at least once a day with her, and she's starting to get her books out and bring them to us.

She was being silly when I snapped this photo, and I just love the giggly grin on her face.
I jumped on the scale this evening and I've lost 4 lbs in the past week. I was able to go on a 2 mile walk with our neighbors tonight, and I so needed that breather. Here's what I ate today:
Breakfast: Protein Drink
Lunch: Leftover Spaghetti
Snack: Small Chocolate Milkshake from Sonic (it was G's reward after the photo shoot)
Dinner: Chobani apple yogurt

First day of School!

Today was the girls first day in their new classrooms at ILCAP. I just love this preschool and I'm so glad that my girls are there! G will be in Mrs. T's class, and MC in Mrs. J.

It was also my first day of working full time with a school district again, so we all had a back to school day and a pretty rough morning getting out of the house. I had to wake up at 5:45, which is EARLY to say the least! I managed to get the girls up around 10 till 7, and immediately into their clothes and in the car. They ate dry cereal and drank milk on their way to school and then had breakfast again at school. Sadly, this will be our morning routine for the next 9 months, but i'll have the entire summer off with them!

Here's some pictures I rushed to take this morning!
I ordered matching shirts from Porcupine Hollow and I love the way they turned out! I made them matching hair bows. G was excited about school and her new class.

MC was not.
I felt the same way too, same way.
I found this cute chevron printable from a blog this weekend (and I hate that I can't remember the source, but I pinned it, and there are others all over Pinterest.)

And tried again for a picture with MC..
 not happening. Poor baby.

I took one more of G at school today, and I wish I would've thought to take some of her in her classroom at open house last week, but i'm hoping next week, when things slow down, I can go in one afternoon and snap a few pics.
My first day back isn't much to report. My district is currently undergoing changes in their speech therapy department, and needless to say, it's crazy. But, I was finally placed at my schools, and I'll go there for the first time tomorrow.

The girls also will have the opportunity to model for The Poke a Dot Shop tomorrow and i'm so excited about that opportunity! I met the owner at a birthday party this weekend, and let me tell y'all, she is crafty and amazing! And, she said my girls were beautiful, so that makes me love her even more! And, she has these super cute Bubble necklaces that y'all need to check out! I'm hoping to order one in the next month!

Here's my diet today: Breakfast- protein drink. Snack- 1 piece of turkey and 1 slice of cheese. Lunch- Chobani apple yogurt. Dinner- Sweet Potato Fries and Protein drink with peanut butter.

I seriously need to go to the grocery store and get some more fruits and veggies! Hopefully, i'll have time this weekend!

Sunday bows

DJ was finally home this morning! This was the first time in three weeks that he didn't have to be at work by 6 am, and that the entire family was home together. So, I let him sleep, and we all stayed home from church today. MC loved having her daddy home and playing with him this morning. G just played upstairs by herself.

After DJ went to work, I worked on some hair bows. MC played in the play room or took naps, and G played downstairs and watched t.v. She has been very adamant lately that she doesn't want anyone else upstairs with her, and she's been okay being downstairs by herself.... just call her Miss Independent.
I made this whimsical owl hair bow and added the hot pink ostrich puff and I love the way it turned out! I've started adding more ostrich puffs to my bows, and personally, I love them!
I've also seen these sculptured flower bows, and I finally found a tutorial for them last night, so I tried to make one. I thought it turned out cute.
I'm in love with this aqua and pink combination in this bow. It screams summer, and I know we are nearing the end, so just put it up for next year!
G loves LaLaLoopsy, and it's become our "go to" present for birthday parties, so when I found the ribbon, I had to purchase it!

Today is Diet day 7. Here's what I ate:
Breakfast: Chobani pineapple yogurt
Snack: Protein Drink
Lunch: 1 slice of pizza
Dinner: Spaghetti (with only one scoop of noodles), and asparagus.

Tomorrow starts my first day at Union schools, and we all have to be up super early! So, wish us luck!

Fun & Relaxing Saturday

The girls and I went to the most adorable birthday party this morning! SK turned 1 year old, and I know it made her mama sad, but this little girl is blessed! She had the cutest pink lemonade theme party, and it gave me a ton of ideas for MC's strawberry lemonade party for next year! (Yes, I start planning their parties a year in advance.)

I managed to snap a picture of the girls before heading out the door. I was pretty lucky to get MC to actually sit for a millisecond, but if you can tell, she was starting to get up and walk toward the camera!
The girls had fun at the party with the lemonade races, piñata, and all the fruit & lemonade they could drink. And, even though it was outside with boughs of rain, we had a great time!

I was ready to get home though and get cozy and warm and veg out before this crazy week i'm about to have! So, I attempted to give the girls a nap, which neither of them took, but at least they rested about an hour!

After rest time, the girls and I went up to the play room, so they could play and I could work on bows. I managed to complete 4 Halloween hair bows this afternoon!

After working on bows, I brought the girls downstairs to do some laundry. I left the laundry room door open and found MC like this:
G had to take a picture too!
I took my diet day off today. It was too hard going to a birthday party this morning! But, here's what I ate today:
Breakfast: Protein Drink, Snack: MC and I shared a piece of cake, but I really believe she ate more than I did! Lunch: Chobani Pineapple Yogurt Dinner: 2 slices of pizza & I really messed up and had a coke! Evening Snack: I found two pieces of ice cream cake in the freezer made with ice cream sandwiches and cool-whip and I ate those!

I've lost a total of 2 lbs in 6 days.

Exercise today: Squats, calf raises, bicycles, and 75 crunches.

Back To School, Day 5, and a Code!

Today was my first day at my new job. I think it will be an exciting year, but I'm also prepared that there may still be some additional changes. We started out the day with a district wide Speech Therapist meeting. I, of course, was running about 10 minutes late which is not a good way to start out a new job, but the babysitter was late, and thankfully, the room full of women completely understood!

The school district is wanting to make changes in their service delivery model, so that is what we discussed, as well as our building assignments. For right now, I'll be placed in one elementary school providing services to a preschool developmental delay class, which I think i'm going to love, and i'll also help out in two schools providing services to kids that do not have an IEP, but are receiving RTI services, (Response to Intervention) which is a fancy way of saying, the child needs help, but he/she may not be severe enough or long term enough to place on an IEP.

After the meeting, several of us went to lunch, and it never ceases to amaze me that SLPs love to talk! Of course, that's what our job is! Then, I went to one of the buildings to take a look around.

I found out that teachers have to arrive at 7:20 am! I think only through the grace of God will the girls and I be dressed and on time to school on Monday. And, my faith is kind of lacking in that area right now. But, hopefully, we will get used to it, or my principal will understand that i'm typically late to arrive.

Thankfully, we can leave by 2:50, which means I can start my Sooner Start kids around 3, and still get the girls by 4.

The girls stayed home with a babysitter today. G enjoyed having someone to play with, and out sitter said that MC has developed such a great personality! Unfortunately, MC woke up early from her nap, and was in a horribly fussy mood for about 45 minutes after waking up, so I just ordered a pizza for dinner!

The girls and I enjoyed playing for a bit in their play room, and I have started working on halloween hair bows.

Here's how I ate today:
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs, chia seeds, cheese, glass of milk
Snack: lots of water
Lunch: We went to Jason's Deli, and I ordered the Club on a croissant, but I only ate 1 out of 4 pieces of the croissant. I'm sure the SLPS though I was weird eating just the turkey, lettuce, and cheese! I also had a side of fruit.
Dinner: 2 slices of P.J. pizza. (I totally let that craving and lack of motivation to cook get the better of me).

We have a birthday party to go to tomorrow, and I'm seriously figuring out how I can not eat a piece of birthday cake. I love cake. Maybe I can share a piece with MC?

I'm taking the next two weeks off from my Facebook shop, in order to get accustomed to the new schedule and to work on Halloween and Thanksgiving bows! But, i'll still ship any ready-to-ship bows posted. And, just for reading this- take 10% off any of those RTS bows using the code BackToSchool!

Told you it would pay off to follow my blog!

Recipe, Open House, Diet Day 4

Today was a stay home day with the girls, or rather, a cleaning day for me, a playing day for G, and a sleeping day for MC. Doesn't that sound like fun?

It was our last real stay home day before I start my new job tomorrow! Yikes! The girls will go back to daycare/preschool 5 days a week, and football has started, and suddenly our lives are once again full of chaos. But, I would't have it any other way.

I really hate cooking while DJ isn't home. I hate to cook anyway, but I knew that the girls needed something other than PB & J. So, I defrosted some chicken and still had no idea what to cook, but I came up with this:

Ingredients: Chicken, broccoli spears, yellow bell pepper, martini sauce, and pasta.

Boil your pasta, and add oil to a skillet. Toss the cut chicken in Italian seasonings. When cooked, add yellow bell peppers and broccoli and stir together.
This is the sauce I used: I had about 1/2 the jar left over from a previous recipe and needed to use it. Once the broccoli and peppers were cooked, I just tossed this into the skillet and stirred to coat.
Super easy. Just put the pasta in a bowl, and add in the chicken mixture, and top with cheese.
I'll be honest, the girls didn't love this dinner, but I did!

As we were eating, it started to rain~ blessed rain! But, not only did it rain, it was windy, paired with lightning and thunder, and then hail!

I finally got the girls dressed after dinner, so we could head out to their open house at preschool.
I tried to get a picture of the girls standing together, but MC walked up to the camera.
Then G was too busy dancing her doll around to look.
And MC crawled away again.

Oh well, one day i'll have a good photo of them together!

Okay, here's how I did on my diet today. So far, i've lost 4 pounds. (in 4 days) Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs with chia seeds and shredded mexican cheese and a glass of milk. Snack was Chobani pineapple yogurt. Lunch was a Protein drink. Dinner- see above recipe :) I only had 1 scoop of pasta. Evening snack was a Protein drink with a tbsp of peanut butter.

Day 2, 3, & Surprise Date Night!

The girls have been at my mom's since Sunday, and DJ and I have enjoyed a few days by ourselves. I wish that I could say I had time to clean house, put things away, work on bows, and get a lot accomplished, but I didn't. I was so busy with work and running around trying to get last minute kids seen, paperwork completed, and meetings scheduled. I was exhausted Monday afternoon, and I got home and did nothing.

While I did miss my girls, it was nice to only get myself dressed and fed and out the door in the mornings!

After my meeting Tuesday afternoon, I went shopping to buy new work clothes. I'm starting a job on Monday with Union schools, which has all happened very last minute over the last two weeks!

While I was shopping Tuesday, DJ told me to go home and pack us an overnight bag. He got us a hotel room, and we met and had dinner. I was a little irked to be away from the house, because there was so much I wanted to do, but it was also nice to not worry about getting things done, and cleaning up after myself this morning!

This afternoon I met my parents and picked up the girls, and boy did I miss them! I was so excited to see them and bring them home! G must've also missed home because she's been pretty well behaved tonight and even came inside when I asked! MC on the other hand, got used to sleeping in the pac n play and she's having a little bit of a hard time falling asleep. Poor thing won't let us rock her, she'd rather just talk to us!

I'm looking forward to spending one last stay home day with them before a day long meeting on Friday and starting to school on Monday!

So, here's how I've done with my diet the last two days:

Yesterday was day 2 of my new diet. Here's how I did:
Breakfast: Protein Drink (milk & whey protein)
Lunch: Grilled Chicken Salad from Chick Fil A, no croutons, 1 package of light italian dressing, water
Afternoon Snack: Protein Drink (milk, whey protein, 1 tbsp. peanut butter)
Dinner: 1 roll, Steak, and a few bites of Au Gratin Potatoes, and asparagus with a glass of wine. (I was really looking forward to yogurt, but since DJ surprised me with a night out, this was my meal.)

Day 3:
Breakfast: Jamba Juice Smoothie with orange, banana, and strawberry, and a scoop of whey protein powder.
Lunch: Salad with italian dressing, water
Snack: Sugar free slice of apple pie with 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream (I would not have gotten this, but we met my parents at Cracker Barrel, and I had already had lunch.)
Dinner: Protein Drink (milk, whey protein, 1 tbsp. peanut butter)

Lifestyle Change Day 1

After my cruise in July, I came home feeling less than stellar. About two weeks later, I met a girl who worked out at the same gym, and we decided to try to work out together. I explained to her my motivation to go, then to not go, and then my mother guilt, that I could pick up my girls early and spend the afternoon with them rather than go to the gym, and after I couldn't work out one week, we were finally able to meet up and have two killer work outs. I mean, I hadn't been so sore, like that, in well, years! I literally could not move for two days after our first workout.

I recently visited my mom and after stepping on the scale, to see that in a year it had not moved, despite some of my efforts, I know that it really is time for a change.

I've also heard a lot about the Body by Vi program, and I've seriously considered it, until I learned that it was full of GMOs and soy, which is not good for women.

I also talked to my cousin, who started "Diets for Dummies" and she explained it was more of a high protein, low carb diet.

I know that carbs are my problem, well, that and chocolate, and ice cream. So, I'm starting to add in more protein and a workout regimen.

My goal is to loose up to 20 pounds. That is where I was before I had both girls. And, I'd love to be there again.

So, here's my "diet" day 1:
Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg, 1 tspn. Chia seeds, a handful of shredded cheese, 1 glass of milk, and 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder.
Snack 1: 1 slice of turkey, and 1 slice of cheese
Snack 2: Chobani apple yogurt with a dash of cinnamon.
Dinner: 1 Orange, 1 hot dog with no bun or condiments, 1 slice of cheese.
I've also had 3 bottles of water today.

Exercise: 1.20 miles on the elliptical, 2.8 miles on the stationary bike.

Weekend in Arkansas

The girls and I left Thursday evening to go to my parent's house. We stopped at Cracker Barrel for dinner, which was a good half way point! Both girls did very well eating, and we explored the store right after we ate.

G loves to sit in their rocking chairs, so we took a few pictures before getting back in the car.
Poor MC, G was trying to hold her into the chair!
Once I put her in a chair by herself, she was very happy!
Since G was so well behaved, I let her choose a candy for the rest of our trip.
We managed to get to Gee's house around 7, so that gave us some time to play before bedtime. G showed off some of her gymnastic skills.
 And MC flirted and played.
On Friday, my mom watched my niece, A, as well. But, I ended up watching the two little ones, while my mom took G to the dollar store to buy some toys! G loaded up on play-doh, a mermaid, paint, fingerpaint, and a sun catcher.

I let the little ones just hang out in their jammies and play.
It's so fun to see A and MC play, or fight, together! They both wanted this puppy.
On Friday evening, I left my mom with all 3 grand girls and went to visit my friend, Laura, in Little Rock. Her mom just sold her house, and is moving, so I helped them get their garage sale together, and racked up on some goodies for the girls!

Saturday morning, G played with play-doh, and then we went to the pool.
My cousins came over later that day, and we swam a bit more and grilled hamburgers for dinner. MC was so hungry that she chowed down on this piece of corn!

We went to church Sunday morning, and then to lunch to celebrate my mom's birthday. We all bought her a watch, bracelet, necklace, and earrings. Once we got home, my sister and her kids came to visit, and I headed home.

The girls are staying with my mom for a few days, because their daycare is closed this week. I needed to finish up some work visits, so i'm thankful that my mom was able to arrange her schedule to keep them. I miss my girls, but I know that they are enjoying time with Gee and grandpa!
