MC's Preschool Program

Megan's class decided to hold their end of year program on a different day than the three and four year olds graduation program. It worked out better for her school to not have so many children in a performance at one time.

Her program was last Thursday at 4:00 and DJ and I were both able to make it.

Their classroom teachers surprised everyone with t-shirts for the kids to wear. MC's class shirt said "Caterpillar Court Alumni" her shirt also had her name on the back.
Here's MC walking to the "stage" with a little friend.
I think she was completely terrified by all of the people. She would not move from this spot the entire time!
She didn't sing or do any of the motions. Their class had two songs- "If You're Happy & You Know It" and "Jesus Loves Me".
After the program we had cookies and fruit and watched a slideshow of the year.
Here's MC and her teacher, Ms. Julie. Ms. Julie has been so good for MC and we are going to miss her so much! I really wish we could keep Julie next year!

G's Pre-K Graduation

Last week, Gretchen had her preschool graduation. I was so good and only teared up one time! MC had been sick the day before and fussy that day, so she was really clingy and wanted nothing to do with her daddy. I think that it helped that I was distracted by keeping MC happy and trying to stay in her seat, that I didn't have time for many emotions to set in.
Here's G before we left the house.

And, several of the girls in her class. These girls have become such good friends in the past two years!
Gretchen with her friends Amelia and Julia. G loves these girls, and has been in the same class as Amelia for the past two years. They've had sleep overs and went to see Angelina Ballerina together and Amelia insists that she must give Gretchen a hug every single day.
I tried to get a good picture of G and Ms. Neva, but G was not cooperating! She was upset because we wouldn't let the little girls run around the gym since they were all dressed so pretty!

When the program started the three year olds sang first, then the other two preschool teachers announced their 'graduates' and then it was Gretchen's class turn.
Here's Ms. Neva announcing her graduates.
On the screen, they displayed a baby picture and their graduation picture. This is where I teared up, because they were also playing the graduation march song, and I flashed forward 13 years from now to high school graduation.

DJ was able to video the entire graduation ceremony. You can watch it here.
It was so funny, because G was the very last graduate to walk down the aisle, and she decided to hold her dress out just like a princess would!
Then the four-five year olds sang songs.

We were able to take a family picture afterwards.
And, get a picture with G and daddy.
And, i'm not sure how I managed to get these in action above, but it was kind of fun, so I thought I'd share here! We tried to take one good picture, and then DJ asked G for a kiss, and instead she leaned forward and blew a kiss- silly girl.
Here's G and I after graduation.
Poor MC was so tired- it was way past her bedtime and she didn't feel good.
G tried to give MC a hug, and MC just cried and ran away!

"How Do I?" Clean

Welcome to this week's post of 'How Do I?'... i'm going to share with you how I clean and managed to keep a 2,000 + sq. ft. house clean with two kids, a husband, a dog, and a baby on the way! Oh, and did I mention that I work full time outside the home? It's laughable really.

To check out my previous 'How Do I?' posts go here.

"A clean home is a happy home" and I have a type A personality, so you know having a clean home is very important to me! I go back and forth on cleaning and what works best, so i'll be sharing two methods that I use to keep my house clean.

In April of this year, we were out of town every single weekend. I knew that I wouldn't have time on Saturday mornings to play catch up, and that I had to keep my house clean throughout the week. It was in this month, that I was determined to keep my house manageable on a daily basis. Now, i've tried methods before, such as the Fly Lady  and I loved her concept, but it was hard to keep up with, so I developed my own routine...

The kitchen is cleaned every night immediately after dinner. This involves clearing the table, rinsing all of the dishes, loading the dishwasher, wiping off the table, putting our cloth napkins in the laundry, and wiping down the countertops.  I would start the dishwasher when DJ and I went to bed. The next day, the dishwasher would be unloaded as I was cooking dinner.

If the girls need a bath, then DJ and I will take turns cleaning the kitchen or bathing the girls. The girls get a bath every other night, so the nights when it's not bath night, I have a bit more time to clean and pick up.

I feel like if my kitchen is clean, then the rest of my house is clean.

I also make our bed every single day. MC's crib was pretty easy, and G's room.... well, I would just close the door. I read that people who make their beds every morning get more accomplished throughout their day. So, I started making the bed every morning. DJ usually helps put the pillows on.

We don't have laundry baskets in our bathroom. There's just no space for them. We tend to just dump our dirty clothes on the floor in front of the bath tub. When the pile starts to overwhelm, I divide them into colors (towels, reds, darks, and whites). Then, I'm easily able to throw a load in the washer in the morning, and I set the timer for the machine to automatically start around 3:30 pm. That way, the clothes aren't in mildew water all day, and the washer goes off after we get home, reminding me to put them in the dryer. What, your washer doesn't have a timer? Get one. It's one of my favorite features of our washing machine.

The girls clothes would be carried to the laundry room after their bath or on Saturdays when we did most of the laundry. They have so many clothes, that we don't have to do all of their laundry throughout the week.

I got in the habit of doing a load of laundry almost every day and this helped so much when we were out of town on the weekends!

We started keeping hangers in the laundry room. This way our clothes get immediately hung up when we pull them out of the dryer.

I pick up the toys in the living room every single night. I also straighten the couch pillows and blankets, and place everything that should be carried upstairs at the bottom of the stairs. I encourage the girls to grab something and take it up to the playroom anytime they go upstairs.

I vacuum every other night. I'd vacuum every day, but that drives my husband insane. When, i'm home though, I typically vacuum every day. No more than every three days.

Now, the other method I use is called the procrastination method..... with this method nothing is done in the middle of the week, or after Wednesday night, saving everything for Saturday mornings. With the exception of football season, and being out of town, we have no obligations, such as soccer games on Saturday mornings. I like it that way.

I start with cleaning the kitchen, then our bedroom, and then I move on to laundry. Megan's room comes next, then the living room, bathrooms, and finally Gretchen's room.

If I clean throughout the week, dusting and bathrooms are almost always saved until Saturdays.

I don't have written checklists of what should be cleaned each day. I've pinned tons of helpful cleaning tips on Pinterest, but I haven't used them. It just helped that I came up with my own method.

This week is my first week out of school, and I plan on spending every morning doing a bit of light cleaning, and then every evening tidying up the house after the girls go to bed. Mainly, it's picking up the clutter from the day. I always clean the kitchen after every meal. Like I said, I just feel that if my kitchen is clean, the rest of my house is clean.

Now that you know my cleaning "schedule", you need to know my cleaning products. I use to spend a ton of money on cleaning products, then throughout my journey to save money and be more "green", I learned that I can spend very little on cleaning products and still have a clean home. The only cleaning products that I purchase include Method dusting spray and Method window spray. (I do purchase laundry and dish detergent as well.) But, every surface in my house is cleaned with a mix of water, blue dawn soap, and vinegar. I don't use bleach. I'll also throw in baking soda to scrub the shower, tub, and the floor.

Using a large bottle of vinegar takes about two months. It's about the same for the dawn and the baking soda. The Method products lasts three months probably. I haven't really kept track, but I do know that i'm not buying cleaning products like I use to.

DJ and I are trying to encourage the girls to help us when we clean. However, we've been more successful with Megan helping than with Gretchen. So, start young!  MC loves to "dust" so I give her a clean rag while i'm dusting and she goes behind and dusts after me. Both girls are able to pick up their toys in the living room, and I encourage, but don't force G to help me make her bed or pick up all of her toys. I find that if she and I work together, it helps, but most of the time, she argues, and I find it easier for her to not help. DJ takes care of most of our laundry. I prefer to dust and clean the bathrooms myself, as well as vacuum, although I do let him help vacuum if he offers. I know that during football season, most of the cleaning will fall on me, and i'm okay with that. But, I also expect DJ to help when he's off, and he's more than willing! I'm currently in the process of coming up with a system for G to help more without complaining and i'll share when we figure out what that is!

I feel like I have to mention that I have read over and over again that mothers wish they wouldn't have spent so much time cleaning when their kids were little. I really struggled with this and for a long time thought that I wasn't a good mom. Then one day, it hit me that I AM a good mom because my house is clean, and my girls aren't playing in a mess. I know they don't care, but I do, and I want to provide the best for them. Having a clean house is part of that. There's nothing I hate more than visiting someone's house where it feels dirty. I don't appreciate dog hair on the couch or even on the floor. I don't want to see a pile of dirty dishes in someone's sink. To me, that's not welcoming, and I always want to welcome our friends and family into a clean home. So, come up with a cleaning method that works for you- whether you save it all for the weekends or you clean a little each day.

I'd love to read your comments about how you manage to keep your house picked up and clean!!! And yes, I've thought about hiring a cleaning lady, but it's just not in the budget that I'd rather give up right now.... maybe this fall!

Meggie's BirthDAY

Last Friday, Megan Claire turned 2 years old! DJ decided that he would take her to daycare, but he had to be at work early, so we had to wake her up early. We got her dressed and I wanted to take her picture in her birthday outfit before school, because I knew if I waited until the end of the day, she'd be filthy!

But, MC had other plans.... she's just not a morning person, and I think it took us 10 minutes just to get half way decent pictures.
She absolutely refused to stand up.
And, she would not take her 'dede' (paci) out of her mouth.
She wouldn't sit in her rocking chair either, so we dragged over the 'time out' chair to see if she'd sit in it.
G wanted her picture taken too, but she was also upset because it wasn't her birthday, and she wasn't getting a lot of attention.
I think this picture pretty much sums up our morning.
Somehow I finally managed to get a picture of MC smiling and without her paci!

Her shirt & hair flair are made by me: find it here.
Her necklace is made by All Tied Up Bowtique

G went to school with me, and it was the students' last day. I managed to take a 1/2 day off work, and G and I went to the grocery store and picked up cookies for MC's classroom party. We arrived around 3:15, just in time for snack, and gave all the kiddos their pink or yellow cookie.
Meggie chose yellow.
G was finally out of her funk that it wasn't her day, and she was glad that she was the special helper. She was able to enjoy a cookie too!

My mom and sister in law, were pretty much to our house by the time we had to be at Meggie's school, so they just met us there.

Here's my niece Amelia, eating her cookie.
And Meggie with her Aunt Tiffany.

After the school party was over, the girls and I went home, while my mom and sister in law ran to Wal-Mart. DJ came home and he cooked us dinner. And we spent the evening baking a cake, fixing fruit salad, and making pasta all for MC's birthday party the next day.

My mom gave the girls a bath, and Amelia crawled up on the couch to cuddle with me- it was so sweet! MC wanted cuddles to so she crawled up on the other side and I enjoyed snuggling with these two precious girls!
Friday was busy, but it was a good day. I'm so thankful for Meggie being in our lives and that our family was able to be here!

i-phone Photo Dump

My husband has been nagging me about clearing off my iphone pictures, and making sure they're backed up somewhere. So, it's well past time that I dump iphone pictures again!

He was out of town May 13-18th, so a lot of these pictures are from when he was gone. I try to take more pictures of the girls then, so he can see them and not feel like he's missing out too much.
G had a field trip at the zoo on the 14th. This is her and Amelia, one of her best friends at preschool. G's wearing her teacher's brother's sunglasses- silly girl! Her teacher texted me this picture- i'm so glad they were able to go and have a great time! I'm sad that I missed out on going.

Here's MC at dinner one night. I obviously don't cook while DJs out of town because she was eating hot dogs!
After dinner, the girls got an early bath, and we settled in to watch some t.v. I needed a relaxing and quiet evening!
But, MC decided to terrorize Gretchen.... they've been play wrestling a little more lately, and i'm not sure if I should discourage it or not... maybe when one of them gets hurt.
MC also woke up early one morning. I think everyone in the world decided to that morning! G was up before 6, and by 6:30 I had already received three text messages, and I was fighting waking up because I took the day off work. No one was on my plan though, so I ended up getting up and having time to fix the girls a quick breakfast before taking them to school.
On Thursday, the 16th, my mom and grandma were here, and we set up Megan's big girl bed... i'll have to post more pictures later, but after I picked her up from school, I showed her her new bed, and she was very excited!
This is her after being tucked in to her big girl bed for the very first time. She loves her babies!

G had soccer practice Thursday night, and we stopped for ice cream. I had ordered her a vanilla cone 1 scoop with a cherry on top, and we ended up getting a waffle cone over flowing with chocolate and a cherry on top! She decided to eat it, even though I wanted to send it right back through the drive through window knowing it would make a huge mess! But, G ate it, and I helped!

Here's MC Friday before I took her to school. her hair looks like it's in a side ponytail, but really she had lopsided pigtails.
Her teacher decided to re-fix her hair that day, and MC ended up in pigtail braids. This picture just makes me laugh- like MC went to Jamaica for the day!
Saturday night, DJ was flying home, and I had planned to cook dinner for the girls and I, but decided to take them out for pizza instead. G picked out her fresh beat band skirt with a flowy pink tank and her red toms- she didn't match at all! I put this scotty dog knot dress on MC, and it fit, but it's a 12 month in size.... I purchased it from Puddin Pies on Facebook, in one of her auctions, and honestly, I feel bad that it was such a steal!

After pizza, we went to the park.
Sunday morning, DJ let me sleep late, and then I wasn't feeling too well, so I layed on the couch most of the morning. MC gave me lots of cuddles!
G wanted to have a "snack picnic" so we spread out the blanket, grabbed some plates and juice, and a few snacks and had ourselves a little picnic in the living room.

Later that night, MC had some more snuggles for me!
And, she wanted me to take her picture!
This past Tuesday, the 21st, MC had to stay home from preschool because she had a slight temperature the day before, and a few kids in her class have Hands, Foot, Mouth disease- which is just a virus. I brought MC to work with me in the morning so I didn't have to take a full day off. She loved coloring and playing in my room!
I think someone is teaching her how to draw and trace hands, because she kept putting her hand down and scribbling around it, and then she put my hand down and scribbled beside it too.
On Wednesday morning, G got dressed in her skirt, shirt, and red toms (again not matching, but I think they're her favorite shoes because they sparkle) and then asked me to fix her hair in a way that i've never done before.... "an imaginary way!" She ended up with pigtails and a pink and red headband (because I had to tie in the red shoes somehow) and then she went upstairs and grabbed a pair of sunglasses and her Barbie purse. She insisted that she was going to 'trick' her friends at school that she was a new kid named Fancy Nancy and that Gretchen was sick at home.

It just made me laugh.
