A Welte Family Christmas: Adalyn's First Christmas

After we had breakfast on Christmas morning, we woke up Adalyn for her to open her presents. I hated that she missed all of the fun we had together, but I was also glad that we could focus only on her while she opened her presents from her first Christmas!
She went right for the brightly colored paper and bows!

She loved all of the light up toys she got!

She also received new bibs!

Meggie decided that she needed to help Adalyn.

She received a few new outfits.

Happy 1st Christmas Adalyn Pearl!

A Welte Family Christmas: Christmas Morning

The girls were up around 6:45 on Christmas day- so excited to open presents! Gretchen slept upstairs with her cousin, aunt, and uncle, and Meggie was in her room with my parents. (We had to squeeze 5 extra people in our house Christmas eve night!) DJ and I always try to have the girls wait until the video camera is set up and we are awake before they're allowed to see the tree and their presents. We typically do this by putting up a baby gate, but now that Gretchen is older, and Megan knocks it down anyway, we had to come up with a different plan. We decided that when Gretchen woke up, my brother would call me on my cell phone and wake DJ and I up so we could make sure to have the cameras ready.
Here's G coming downstairs Christmas morning.

She slept in her hair bow, I swear I did not put it on her, we just forgot to take it off!
It took Meggie a few more minutes to wake up, but she was excited when she ran into the living room and saw all of the presents.

Gretchen had the best expressions opening presents this year! I was really nervous about how she'd react to a few of her presents because we didn't get her a lot of toys. I need to remember every year that she's excited no matter what she gets.
She was given a stuffed Sofia the First doll.

Meggie received The Little Mermaid on DVD.

Gretchen opened her Vtech game and had no idea what it was for because, "I can't read yet" but she was still so excited!

My mom made the girls aprons.

Gretchen finally figured out what that game was for! She was so excited that my parents gave her the InnoTab! She calls it her iPad.

Both girls were given baby dolls and accessories from my dad.

My parents bought me Hunter rain boots, and I immediately tried them on!

Meggie decided to take a nap in the middle of opening presents.

After we finished opening the gifts, the girls read the note in our Christmas tree, that they had two more gifts in their daddy's office.

Gretchen received a new pink bicycle.

Meggie was given a Minnie Mouse scooter and helmet.

She wore her helmet most of the morning.

Gretchen really wanted to ride her bicycle right away!

After we opened presents, we ate breakfast and then finally woke up Adalyn! Her first Christmas will be posted tomorrow!

A Welte Family Christmas: Christmas Eve

After our Elf Christmas Eve breakfast, we spent the rest of the morning, straightening the house, getting dressed, and getting ready for my parents, brother, sister-in-law, and niece to arrive!
Megan did a little playing.
We surprised my mom this year and convinced her to come to our house for Christmas. My brother and I have been planning this since November and trying to figure out a way to make it work that they could all be here for Christmas. My mom was told that my brother had to work on Christmas day (because he did, but then his schedule was changed, and he didn't tell her). His original plan was for DJ, the girls, and I to come to his house on Christmas Eve and all of us walk in to my mom's house on Christmas morning. Plans changed when DJ and I decided that we did not need to travel this year. My mom was scheduled to work on Christmas Eve and we had almost convinced her to drive here once she was off work with my sis in law, niece, and stepdad. But, as our luck would have it, my mom was scheduled to have knee surgery the week before Christmas, which meant, she had to take off for several weeks afterwards! I hate that she had to have surgery, but it worked out for the best! My brother ended up surprising her with a Christmas card on Christmas Eve morning, that he would be joining them in Oklahoma for us to all celebrate the holidays together. I'm told my mom cried.

Once everyone arrived, the girls headed out to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for appetizers, sandwiches, and Christmas day lunch.
We snacked on spinach dip.

And a cheese ball
Then, I gathered the girls and we baked chocolate chip cookies for Santa.

Gretchen loves butter!

The girls took turns putting in all of the ingredients.
Once the cookies were made, we all ate dinner!

After dinner, the girls listened to their "reindeer food" poem and then we went outside to leave food for Santa's reindeer.

Our reindeer food is made with oatmeal and sprinkles. You could add glitter too!

Then, we came back in and had a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party.

All of the girls blew out the candles.

Then, we attempted a few family pictures:
My brother and his family.

Our family

The entire crew!

We tried to just get the girls, but Amelia didn't want to sit and Addy kept eating her shirt.

I managed to get one of just my girls, but both big sisters were fighting over who could hold Adalyn.

Then the girls got on their Christmas pajamas and we got out our Magic Christmas Pillowcases and put them on their pillows.

Finally, we settled down to read The Night Before Christmas.

We set out cookies for Santa and then sent the girls to bed.

After the girls were snug in their beds, Santa came:

Then the adults went to bed to try to sleep before the girls woke up entirely too early!
