I cannot believe I am sitting down to write my 1,000th blog post! I am just so amazed by that number, and that the girls will one day, have so many things to read and look over to learn about our family and their lives as they grew up!
Today's post is fitting for 1,000. I'm going to talk about something that I love doing for my girls- throwing their birthday parties! After all, if it weren't for my daughter's, we wouldn't have birthday's, we wouldn't have this family, and we wouldn't have each other! I remember so vividly throwing Gretchen's first birthday, and our parties have taken off from there!
This year, we decided to try to go a little less "over board", and it may go down as one of the best parties we've thrown!
First, here's the birthday girl, and the first reason behind everything that I do- all of my inspiration- I just love her!
I ordered her outfit from Porcupine Hollow. I found the applique' design from another facebook page, but the outfit came with pants, which G hates to wear. I asked Alexis if she would be able to recreate the shirt, and we found the aplique' design from Etsy. I also asked her to make a matching chevron skirt. I probably could have handled the skirt, but I ordered her outfit in December, and I was experiencing business burn out, as well as 1st trimester exhaustion, and I just didn't have faith that I could come up with something as beautiful as Alexis did.
Her custom outfit cost around $35.00.
I made her hair bow using many of the same colors as the outfit.
I ordered her cupcakes from Cakes by Dana. Dana and I discussed what I wanted, and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I wanted a rainbow layered cake or cupcakes. I am so glad that we went with cupcakes, because I didn't have to worry about cutting and really serving. These were stress free, which was my theme- ha!
The inside of the cupcakes were different colors of cake, iced in blue, with a rainbow sour candy on top, set off by "clouds".
Cupcakes were $30.00
I found the plates and napkins at Target on clearance.
Total cost of plates & napkins= $5.00
I picked up cherry and grape kool-aid juices, and served those. I decided to go with two different flavors, because of the rainbow colors.
At the opposite end of the cake table, was the candy buffet. I found polk-a-dot candy bags from Hobby Lobby and guests were able to fill them with their own choices.
All of the containers came from the Dollar Tree- I spent about $12.00 on those. The red table cloth also came from the Dollar Tree.
I did spend more on the candy than I probably should have, but I was very specific in what I wanted, and I wanted to spend more of my budget in this one area.
Guests could fill their candy bags with red gummy bears, rainbow colored twizzlers, purple candy sticks, dum-dum suckers, orange slices, and blue gum balls.
Guests also received one rice krispy treat "paint brush" to take home. (I'll post a tutorial later this week.)
Total for Candy was about $50.00. Most of it was purchased from Party City, but I also found some at our local grocery store.
To add an extra layer of color to the table, I purchased purple deco mesh from Hobby Lobby, and wrapped it around the candy dishes.
Finally, guests were able to take home their own set of paints.
These were $0.99 at Hobby Lobby, and I ordered stickers from Etsy.
I absolutely love how everything turned out! All of the decorations were a hit, and they were the perfect touches to enhance our rainbow theme!
