So, Friday morning the girls and I got up early because I had a doctor appointment and we were headed to Arkansas. My appointment went well, and we were on time and the girls were so good in the office while we waited! Afterwards, we were able to meet DJ for lunch at Hideaway Pizza. At first, I planned on Sonic, but i'm glad we were able to get out of the car, and that the girls were able to see DJ, and I was able to feed Addy before we left.
I made the girls go potty before we left, and neither of them went! Of course, after we said good bye and we were on the road for about an hour, Gretchen started whining that she had to potty. Now, if you've traveled from Tulsa to Conway, which i'm sure many of you have not, once you get out of Tulsa, you go through one more town, Muskogee, and then there is nothing until you reach Arkansas. There's one rest stop, one sketchy little town, and then Arkansas and that's it. So when Gretchen announced that she had to potty, I was not pleased. We do have a travel potty, but of course, I left it at home.
Gretchen must have really had to go, because I told her the only place to go was the side of the road and she agreed. We managed to find an exit, (that had no gas stations or anything else) and G peed on the side of the road.
We finally made it into Arkansas and Addy was doing so well until we hit a traffic jam and the car stopped.... so once the jam cleared and we were able to move again, it took another 10 minutes to get to a rest stop. We pulled over, and I let the big girls out of their carseats so they could move around in the car while I fed Addy.
I had to snap a pic of her cute little barefoot sandals, made by me :) Check out my page here.
Then, we all went in to the restroom, got back in the car and made it to my mom's house around 5.
Friday night, we had dinner at my brother's house, tried to swim, but it started to thunder and lightening. We gave all of the girls a bath, and all settled in to watch a movie. We didn't make it in bed until almost 11, so it was a very long day!
I don't think I have any pictures from Saturday.... we started out the day by doing some embroidery, and then my sister came over, and we all went down to my sister in laws house to help hang pictures and help decorate.
We had lunch and my grandma and I ran a few errands.
That evening, we got dressed for a reception of some old friends that were married in July. It was such a pretty little event with burlap everywhere and BBQ for dinner, and we were able to see many of my childhood church friends and catch up!
Thanks to my mom, I was able to sleep in Sunday morning, and we did some more embroidery, appliquéing, and monogramming. That afternoon, I loaded up the girls and we went to Searcy to meet my mother in law, sister and brother in law, and my nephew to celebrate my mother in laws birthday.
Megan slept the entire way there, which was great, but she had an accident, and we had to run into Wal Mart to buy her a new outfit. Afterwards, we met at the restaurant, and had a delicious dinner and celebrated with cupcakes.
My mom had been begging for watermelon the entire weekend, and we finally spotted some on our way back to her house. Too bad the truck was driving slow, and we had to pass him.
On Monday, my mom cooked breakfast and my brother and niece came down to hang out and all of the girls played outside in the sprinklers.
Once they came inside, Megan somehow sprayed her self with sunscreen and got some in her eyes:
That afternoon, Gretchen, Addy, and I headed to Little Rock to meet my friend Laura for ice cream. I also decided to get Gretchen's hair trimmed, and on the drive I teased Gretchen and told her she could get her ears pierced. I was shocked when she agreed and said she'd be okay as long as I held her hand. So, we called DJ and asked his permission.
Once we checked into the hair salon, we asked if there was a store close by that pierced ears, and we were told that Merle Norman did. We called DJ again to double check that he was okay, and he gave us the go ahead (somewhat reluctantly).
Gretchen picked out a pair of little "diamond" earrings, although she really wanted the rainbow flowers, but they were all out.
I held her hand, and she did so good! It's a day i'll always remember and i'm so thankful we could share that memory!
The mother and sister of the girl that was working in Merle Norman were there and they thought Gretchen was cute and wanted to watch her get her ears pierced. I had them try to take a video, but it didn't turn out.
She cleaned Gretchen's ear and marked them with dots, and then I held Gretchen's hand and she pierced the first ear. Gretchen's response was, "Ow, that hurts!" with a little whine in her voice and I think tears were starting to come to her eye, but not one fell. I told her that I knew, but it would go away, and she had to hold my hand again, because we had to pierce the other ear. Once again, she said that it hurt, but once the lady handed her a mirror so she could see her newly pierced ears, Gretchen was beaming from ear to ear and so proud of herself!
After her ears were pierced, we walked back to the salon, and they still weren't ready for her, but that gave us time to walk over to Orange Leaf and meet Laura.
Finally, she was able to get her hair cut, and she decided to sit in the police car.
Once her hair was cut, we headed back to Conway, and I had forgotten what a pain in the rear 5:00 traffic is in Little Rock! About an hour later, we made it to Conway, ran into Target, got gas, and finally made it back to my moms at 7. Just in time for a late dinner, baths, and bed.
We got up Tuesday morning and got dressed and packed and headed back to Tulsa. Our original plan was to head back on Wednesday, but Gretchen's kindergarten open house was moved up a week early, so we had to head back home.
And, just as on our way down, Gretchen had to pee on the side of the road again.
Megan finally fell asleep and we made it to Van Buren (the state line) before stopping to feed Addy and pick up lunch at Wendy's.
Megan only slept about 30 minutes in the car, so once she got home, she was so tired and whiny. She layed on the couch with her 'dede's' and didn't want me to take her picture!
Gretchen went upstairs to her room for "alone time" so Megan wasn't happy that she couldn't play with her sister.
Addy looked so cute today, I had to take her picture! Thanks Aunt Tiffany for her sweet smocked bubble outfit!
We went to Gretchen's open house to meet her teacher, came home for dinner and bedtime!
So glad to be home!
