Saturday was our home opener for this year's Hurricane football season! We were so excited to have a home game that was early enough in the day for the girls to enjoy and not be too fussy! Although, G had her first sleepover with a friend away from home the night before, and she continued to tell me how tired she was.
We made it to the game to hear a little bit of the band before the game and to see kick off. My goal was just to make it on time to kick off! (I'm late everywhere!)
Here's G before the game. We usually sit inside the offices to allow the kids some freedom to play, so we watch the festivities and the first few plays from just outside the offices.
G was so sweet to put her hand over her heart for the National Anthem.
Captain Cane always comes out carrying the United States Flat and riding on the golf cart.
The girls were given a sign before the game. G loved cheering with it, until the handle ripped! Thankfully, we had an extra.
And our players running out on the field. This year our team has started carrying a flag with a blue dot. I have no idea what it means- DJ won't tell me. But, it's some secret symbol for our football players and coaching staff. I've joked that i'm going to make shirts with a blue dot applique'd on them for the girls and I!
This is the only picture I got of the girls together, and it's not even a good one! That's just what happens when one is being silly, and the other just wants to move around!
I made both of their shirts.
Here's MC playing in one of the offices.
I purchased her blue and gold ruffle butts from Zulily. I knew I had to have them when I saw them!
Toward the end of 4th quarter, DJ gave G and I a sideline pass so I could take her to visit the cheerleaders and dance team. We walked over and saw the cheerleaders, but didn't go onto the field to see them. (We would've had to walk through the football players, and I was not going to do that!) But, the dance team was closer to the offices. G took her picture with them, and then we sat and watched them dance a little, then she got up and danced beside them- it was so cute!
On a more serious note, Tulane's player, Devon Walker, was seriously injured in Saturday afternoon's game. We sat in the offices and watched the horrific scene of team doctors working on him, as well as him being taken away in the ambulance. We witnessed faithful TU fans stand together in prayer once Devon left the stadium, and a standing ovation for Tulane's players as they ran back on to the field to finish the game they had came to play. I know that Devon had surgery on Sunday afternoon. I am asking you that you pray, and pray hard. Pray for his healing. Pray for his doctors. Pray for his family. Pray for God to be glorified in this story. Pray for Devon.
